We're often asked about the differences between a T1 and DSL, and, while the circuits differ technologically, our real concern is their reliability.
No circuit is perfect, and some do experience outages, but what sets the T1 apart is that the local loop provider is required to respond quickly, within four hours, to any outages. They don't do this out of the goodness of their hearts, they're required to by law or they may face large fines by the Michigan Public Service Commission. DSL circuits are not governed by these same laws.
Some providers are now selling a sort of "fake" T1 which is no different than a glorified DSL circuit. They sell these circuits as a full T1, or a flex-T1 with voice lines bundled within. They sometimes offer the same bandwidth, and low latency as a "real" T1, but the differences become apparent if your circuit goes down. Since these circuits are really just a DSL circuit, the local loop provider has a much lower obligation to repair them, and they probably cannot be fixed on weekends, evenings or holidays. There are no guarantees of a 4 hour response time, in fact, there may be no guarantees at all.
Waveform Technology sells real T1 circuits and guarantees their reliability. Please feel free to contact us for more T1 information and pricing.
