Fastest Internet Access For A Private School
Waveform News
Thursday, 19 August 2010 18:52
This week Waveform Technology has completed a new fiber optic build which will provide gigabit Internet access to Marian High School, Brother Rice High School, and St. Regis School in Bloomfield Hills. This private fiber optic Internet access gives these schools faster Internet access than any other private school in Michigan.
Gigabit Internet access is 650 times faster than a T1, and more then 160 times faster then Marian High School’s old Internet access.
We’re treating this as a pilot project for a larger community oriented construction schedule that will bring extremely fast Internet access to more Michigan schools. We managed to help break the price barrier on T1 circuits back in the 1990s, and now we hope to do the same for fiber optic Internet connections.
Please let us know if you’d like Gigabit Internet access at your school or business.

When ordering your rack in Waveform's Michigan Data Center, it's important to know how much power you'll need. Several server manufacturers offer online calculators to help you estimate the power needs of your equipment.
Customers with additional questions about their power requirements should speak to a Waveform representative for more help. And if you know of any power calculators that should be added to this list, please let us know.

We're announcing today our application to Detroit Edison’s SolarCurrents Utility-Owned Program. Detroit Edison is searching for local businesses and education institutions to provide space for solar power plants. We're one of several applicants.
If selected by Detroit Edison to participate, Waveform Technology will allow Detroit Edison to install a solar power plant on the roof of Waveform’s Troy, Michigan Data Center. We plan to use the SolarCurrents program to increase the amount of renewable energy used to power the Michigan Data Center.

If we're picked then we'll ensure that a fair portion of our electricity comes from renewable solar power. This doesn't just make us greener, but it makes the IT departments of our clients a whole lot greener! Our data center is one of the largest public data center (meaning it's open through colocation to individuals and companies) in metro Detroit.
SolarCurrents is one of the largest distributed programs in the country, and Detroit Edison will generate 15 megawatts of renewable electricity through the Utility-Owned portion.
Macomb County Uses Waveform Technology Metro Ethernet

Waveform Technology is now supplying fiber optic Internet access to Macomb County. The new connection serves both Macomb’s 2,500 County Employees and MACnet, the county’s own private network, by providing redundancy to the current Internet circuit. Waveform Technology provisioned a 100Mbps fiber optic Metro Ethernet circuit for Macomb County. Metro Ethernet was chosen for its versatility and simplicity of design.
Macomb County is among the first customers to connect to a recently constructed expansion of Waveform Technology’s southeast Michigan fiber optic network.
Macomb County chose Waveform Technology for numerous reasons, but primarily because Waveform’s metropolitan fiber optic network provides complete path redundancy from the county’s primary Internet connection. “Owning our own network allowed us to meet the specific route stipulations that Macomb Country required,” said Waveform Technology representative Noel Montales. “It provides us more flexibility than other ISPs that are just reselling local phone company assets.”

We're in the process of building ourselves a new website. A couple new websites, actually, since we're going to consolidate our web presence in some places and expand it in others. We're working on an easier to use interface, a more pleasing design, and some more uniformity.
Our number one goal is support of operations, so marketing tends to see fewer resources and man-hours. That doesn't mean we do a bad job, it just means it takes us longer. Keep your eyes peeled for changes, and keep patient.

If you’ve looked around the products section of our website, or spoken with one of our sales representatives, you might have noticed that we offer bandwidth on two separate metrics, 95th percentile and monthly transfer. We’re going to take some time here to talk about how both these methods work, and to explain why we use them.
